Marti MacGibbon, humorous inspirational speaker, nationally award-winning author, and addiction specialist, delivered the keynote speech at Community Health Center’s 40th Anniversary of their Break the Cycle Celebration. The event, held at Quaker Station in downtown Akron, attracted a full capacity audience, and inspired all attendees to celebrate recovery and break away the stigma surrounding addiction and co-occurring issues.
Indiana Addictions Issues Coalition honored Marti MacGibbon with the 2014 Recovery Advocate of the Year Award. IAIC is a subsidiary of Mental Health America of Indiana. Ms. MacGibbon is an inspirational speaker, certified addiction treatment specialist, and author of the nationally award-winning addiction memoir, Never Give in to Fear: Laughing All the Way Up from Rock Bottom.
Kim Manlove, Director of the Coalition, presented Marti with the award, and added that she is recognized for her outstanding work in recovery advocacy, and for breaking away the stigma surrounding addiction, human trafficking, mental illness and and other issues.

The Marion County Department of Child Services and The Children’s Bureau hired Marti to deliver a presentation from a survivor’s perspective. In addition to being a survivor of human trafficking, Ms. MacGibbon is an activist and advocate for victims.

Marti MacGibbon, human trafficking survivor, advocate and activist, spoke to California legislators at the State Capitol in Sacramento on Lobby Day. Ms. MacGibbon was invited to speak in support of two new bills, SB 1165, aimed at preventing child sex trafficking, and SB 1388, aimed at reducing demand by making sex buyers accountable. Many thanks to survivor leader Autumn Burris, founder and director of Survivors for Solutions, who organized the group of 9 survivors who attended Lobby Day and advocated for these bills. Ms. Burris also testified before the legislature.
